What is Adam's Bridge

Unraveling the Mysteries of Adam's Bridge:
A Geological Marvel

Introduction:

Adam's Bridge, also known as Rama's Bridge or Rama Setu, is a chain of limestone shoals stretching between Pamban Island, off the southeastern coast of Tamil Nadu, India, and Mannar Island, off the northwestern coast of Sri Lanka. This intriguing natural formation has captured the attention of scientists, historians, and mythologists for centuries, contributing to a fascinating blend of geology and mythology.

Geological Formation:

Scientifically referred to as a "tombolo," Adam's Bridge is a unique geological formation that results from the deposition of sand and sediment over time. The bridge comprises a series of shallow limestone shoals and sandbanks, with some estimates suggesting it is around 7,000 years old. The Palk Strait, where Adam's Bridge is located, is relatively shallow, making it conducive to the accumulation of sediment and the formation of this remarkable structure.
